March
March 19th is the feast of St. Joseph Spouse of Mary.
St. Joseph, foster father of Jesus Christ and spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary,
is the patron of the Sisters of St. Joseph. He is chosen by God and in the New Testament he is shown as their protector.
This second statue of St. Joseph and the child Jesus (above) is in the second floor front window of our Motherhouse. It was donated to our first sisters from France from their Motherhouse in Le Puy, France after the St. Augustine convent was built around 1876. The palm fronds are a reflection off of the glass in the window.
Today, Good Friday in the Catholic liturgical year, we join with Christians throughout the world in remembering the day Jesus was crucified and died. The paschal mystery, dying and rising to new life, becomes a pattern in our lives when we are baptized.
As consecrated women religious in the Catholic Church we try, as Sisters of St. Joseph of St. Augustine, Florida, to die to an ego-level way of living and strive to become who we are meant to be in God's design.
We have a maxim of our founder, Jesuit Fr. Medaille: "Live out your life with one desire only: to be always what God wants you to be, in nature, grace, and glory, for time and eternity."
Our vows of poverty, chastity and obedience give public witness that we have given ourselves to God. We are poor, chaste and obedient in imitation of Jesus Christ and work to bring about union of ourselves with God and one another and union of neighbor with neighbor and neighbor with God in the simple, humble, loving manner of St. Joseph who never says a word in Scriptures.
Please pray for our congregation as we enter into our Chapter of Affairs and Chapter of Elections next week.
St. Joseph, our patron, pray for us.
